About the Cinderella

Built on a sour
Five ingredients look like a lot until you see the shape underneath: orange and pineapple stand in for the spirit, lemon is the sour, grenadine is the sugar, and soda is the length. That is the skeleton of a Fizz. Zero-proof drinks fail when whoever built them forgets the sour half and simply pours juices together.
Common questions
Cinderella FAQ
Does the orange juice have to be fresh?
It makes the biggest single difference here. Cartoned juice is pasteurized and tastes cooked, which is exactly the flavor that makes a soft drink taste institutional. If you fix only one thing, squeeze the orange. Pineapple from a can is fine, since almost nobody juices a fresh one.
How do I stop it reading as fruit punch?
Lemon and cold. That 15 ml of lemon is structural, not decorative, and leaving it out collapses the drink into juice. If it still reads flabby, add another 5 ml and pull the grenadine back to a bar spoon. Serve it in a glass packed to the top with ice.
Is 30 ml of soda enough to notice?
Just about. It works as a lift rather than a lengthener, adding a prickle at the top without watering down the juice. Double it if you want something to nurse for an hour, but then push the lemon to 20 ml so the whole thing does not go slack.
Is this only for children?
It gets handed to kids because it is pink and sweet, but the lemon gives it enough acidity to work for an adult who is driving. Cut the grenadine to a few drops, stretch it with more soda and serve it in a proper glass, and nobody reads it as a kids' order.
What ingredients are in a Cinderella?
A classic Cinderella calls for 45 ml (1.5 oz) Orange juice, 45 ml (1.5 oz) Pineapple juice, 15 ml (0.5 oz) Fresh lemon juice, 8 ml (0.25 oz) Grenadine, 30 ml (1 oz) Soda water. That single-serve spec scales cleanly — the recipe above converts it to oz and multiplies it for 2–4 drinks.
Is there any alcohol in a Cinderella?
Nothing — the Cinderella is completely alcohol-free, which makes it a great mocktail for drivers, kids and anyone skipping alcohol.
Is a Cinderella shaken or stirred?
A Cinderella is built directly in the glass over ice — no shaker required. Add the ingredients in order and give it a brief, gentle stir.
